Getting the Most for Federal Dollars: Landowner Response to the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program
نویسندگان
چکیده
Previous research on landowner willingness to retire land into the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) is based on cross-sectional data prior to 2002. Using enrollment data on a CRP subprogram from 1998 to 2010 we find that incentives matter more for pasture than cropland, and we find that counties producing cattle respond more strongly to current incentives. We also see an idiosyncratic lack of participation in Washington State. Finally, contrary to one recent study, we see that the discounted stream of payments matters to producers as much as up-front incentives. In counties producing few cattle, up-front incentives have virtually no effect. JEL codes: H23, Q15, Q24, Q58

Creating Wildlife Habitat Through Federal Farm Programs: An Objective-Driven Approach
Conservation programs administrated by the United States Department of Agriculture under the Farm Bill have tremendous potential to impact wildlife habitat and populations on private land. Recent comprehensive reviews demonstrate that private landowners who participate in these programs have established habitats that may contribute to sustaining some regional wildlife populations. However, I ar...

Efforts to reverse declines in native grasslands benefit from agricultural policies that encourage private land conservation. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) improved conservation across landscapes but enrollment has declined. We used sequential exploratory mixed methods to compare landowner and conservation practitioners’ perceptions, evaluate perceived ...
متن کاملOptimization of Operation of Microgrid by Thermal Demand Response Considering Enhancement of Consumers’ Thermal Comfort
In recent years, multi-energy microgrids including electricity, gas and thermal are more grown; that presents demand response (DR) models considering multi-energy storages and renewable resources. Appropriate DR management with storages may lead to optimal flexibility. In this paper, a probabilistic linear model is introduced to assess the effect of flexibility and DR. In the proposed model, el...
متن کاملPerpetual conservation easements and landowners: evaluating easement knowledge, satisfaction and partner organization relationships.
Conservation easements are being more widely used to facilitate permanent land conservation. While landowners who initially place a conservation easement on their land are generally highly motivated to protect the conservation values of their land, changes in landownership may hinder long-term active landowner support for these easements. Maintaining such support is critical for ensuring their ...
متن کاملLand management restrictions and options for change in perpetual conservation easements.
Conservation organizations rely on conservation easements for diverse purposes, including protection of species and natural communities, working forests, and open space. This research investigated how perpetual conservation easements incorporated property rights, responsibilities, and options for change over time in land management. We compared 34 conservation easements held by one federal, thr...
